An addiction can result in feelings of isolation – addicts often feel cut-off from friends and family. This usually relates to the fact that for whatever reason, the addict has turned to a drug, alcohol, or other compulsion in order to cope. The addiction takes the place of interpersonal relationships.

As the addiction grows, so does the isolation. The ability to relate to others becomes increasingly impaired and eventually the addict can feel alone even when he/she is with others. The isolation can present another problem for the addict to deal with and because he/she uses inappropriate coping mechanisms the cycle escalates.

Because every addict is an individual there is no program that is one size fits all. Learning to examine feelings in this manner can result in a better understanding of one’s self. However, it is unlikely that an addict can master this alone. Working with people that understand the emotional connections and issues that he is dealing with will result in a successful recovery. This understanding will help build the confidence and self-esteem he needs to move forward.

As small steps are taken and success is achieved the result is improved self confidence. Through work with qualified staff recovery is not only possible it is very likely.
